Lamine Yamal, young promise of FC Barcelona, signed a contract with the German sports brand Adidas, becoming its new sponsor and leaving behind the American company Nike. The news was announced by Adidas in a statement, confirming a long-term partnership with the 16-year-old Spanish international player.

As reported by EFE, Yamal began testing his new Adidas boots at the end of January, all white, but it was during the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals against Naples (1-1) that he wore the chosen model.

“I am proud to join Adidas as it has always been the brand of the best. Growing up, I idolized Leo Messi, who has been with Adidas since I started watching football,” said the Barça team player in statements collected by the German company.

The Barcelona striker will wear the Adidas X Crazyfast Leo Messi ‘Spark Gen10s’, becoming the only player, apart from Messi himself, to do so.

This fact establishes an interesting parallel between the young Catalan footballer and the Argentine star, since in 2006 Messi also stopped wearing Nike to sign a contract with Adidas.

Lamine Yamal has been one of Barcelona’s revelations this season, playing 35 games, scoring five goals and providing four assists. She has stood out as one of the promises with the potential to lead both the Catalan team and the Spanish team in the future.

His debut with Spain on September 8, where at 16 years and 57 days he became the youngest debutant and scorer in La Roja’s history, has consolidated him as a key player in coach Luis de la Fuente’s squad.
