Acelino “Popó” Freitas, one of the outstanding boxers in Brazilian history during the late 90s and early 2000s, demonstrated his validity at age 48 in a recent fight against Kleber Bambam, bodybuilder and actor.
The fight, held at the Arena Vibra in San Pablo, was scheduled for six rounds but ended in just 36 seconds. It was the main event of “Fight Music Show 4,” which features fights between influencers, artists and sports personalities.
For two years now, Freitas has been a prominent figure in this combat spectacle. The former WBO and WBA super featherweight and lightweight world champion knocked down Bambam on two occasions, prompting the referee to stop the bout.
Following his victory, Freitas praised his opponent’s promotion as a key factor in the event’s success.
“I say it with all humility, with all due respect to BamBam, he was responsible for this whole house being full today. Whoever is here today came to see this, not only because of me, but I was simply there to take him down. He was the guy who did all the marketing,” said the boxer in statements collected by Infobae.
Freitas retired from boxing with a record of 41 wins (34 by knockout) and two losses (2 by knockout), having briefly returned to the ring in 2012, 2015 and 2017 following his first retirement in 2007.
For his part, Kleber Bambam, winner of the first edition of the reality show “Big Brother Brazil,” found success on Brazilian television before moving to the United States in 2018 to dedicate himself to bodybuilding. At 46 years old, he has more than four million followers on Instagram and almost one million subscribers on YouTube.
