Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) and its main figure Saúl Canelo Álvarez reached an agreement to separate their paths, having completed only one of the three fights signed, which was the Mexican’s victory against Jermell Charlo in September.
The breakup occurs after failing to reach an economic or organizational agreement for the fight against Jermall Charlo, Jermell’s older brother, which was planned for May 4 in Las Vegas.
Óscar de la Hoya confirmed that Canelo Álvarez had broken his pact with PBC. Knowing that the former boxer has differences with the man from Guadalajara, after many years of working relationship, the retired athlete questioned the financial claims of the current Undisputed World Super Middleweight Champion.
“Canelo just left PBC, I don’t know if he is in talks with DAZN or who he is negotiating with. Who is going to pay him all that guaranteed money that he is looking for if he breaks contracts? ”Were De La Hoya’s words this Monday.
Canelo would face Jaime Munguía
Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez made the decision to expose his undisputed super middleweight championship against Jaime Munguía on May 4 in Las Vegas, sources revealed to journalist Salvador Rodríguez of ESPN.
According to Rodríguez, Matchroom Boxing proposed to Canelo Álvarez to face Munguía and Edgar Berlanga for their May fight, but in the end the one from Tijuana ended up being the one chosen by the man from Guadalajara and it is expected that it will be officially announced in the coming days.
“Sources told ESPN Knockout that four-time world champion Canelo Álvarez will present his undisputed Super Middleweight championship against fellow Mexican Jaime Munguía on May 4 in Las Vegas,” he said.
“Once the three-fight agreement between Canelo Álvarez and PBC, signed last year and of which only the one with Jermell Charlo was carried out last September, Matchroom Boxing appeared with two combat proposals for Canelo Álvarez and Eddy Reynoso, both with fresh and convincing triumphs: the Mexican Jaime Munguía and the Puerto Rican Édgar Berlanga, both undefeated and willing to fight on the weekend of May 5,” he added.
Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, 33, showed that he is still at the top and increased his legacy in the sport after beating Jermell Charlo by unanimous decision. The undisputed 168-pound champion has a record of 60 wins (39 by knockout), two losses and two draws in his career.
For his part, Jaime Munguía, 26, retained the super middleweight silver belt of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) after knocking out the English fighter in the eighth round. The Mexican has a record of 43 victories and 34 of them came via the fast track.
