The renowned boxer Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin has taken a new step in his professional career that takes him away from the ring by becoming the new president of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan; This fact would be the main trigger for announcing his formal retirement from boxing, having never made any official statement on the matter.
The news about his new position in Kazakh boxing was announced by various media outlets when speaking with the 41-year-old sports idol moments after his announcement.
“It will be a great honor for me to represent our country in a new way. When I was offered to head the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, he agreed to nominate me on the condition that I be allowed to make my contribution to developing Kazakh sport. As you know, I am not a politician or a manager,” Golovkin expressed in his statements offered to Kazinform.
Gennady Golovkin obtained the position by being the only candidate to occupy this position in which he ended up receiving a total of 34 votes in favor and two votes of abstention in an extraordinary general assembly of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan.
“I am used to demonstrating my intentions with actions, not with words. I want to add my own vision, I have many years of international experience, I have a team, and most importantly, I have the desire to implement all this in my country,” added the boxer.
It is important to highlight that Golovkin has not announced his official retirement from world boxing, although he has not starred in any fight since last September 17, 2022 when he was defeated by the Mexican Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez in a duel that was defined by unanimous decision. favor of the current undisputed super middleweight champion.
