The ace of the New York Mets rotation, the Japanese Kodai Senga, would be in trouble with his shoulder and his throwing arm that not only has him out of action in Spring Training but could keep him away from the mound until the month of May.

A report this Tuesday from the New York Mets correspondent for MLB, Anthony DiComo, reported that Senga suffers from fatigue in his right throwing arm and if that were not enough, a shoulder strain aggravated the first diagnosis, which has the greatest consequence miss the Opening Day on March 28 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

As DiComo explained, the Japanese is already undergoing treatment for both injuries but everything seems to indicate that it is not something that will be a matter of days. The Queens medical staff decided to give him an injection of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), with which the shoulder began to show improvement.

Likewise, he was removed from the roster that the Mets currently have in Spring Training so that he can focus on his recovery, which in this first phase will last 21 days.

Regarding his injury, Senga himself offered statements this Tuesday commenting that he hopes to get his physical condition to improve as quickly as possible to be back in action and be able to contribute to the cause of the Mets.

“The only thing I really have to say is use this time to my advantage, work on the things I need to work on and make sure I can get out as quickly as possible. Once I’m there I can dominate and help the team win,” said the rotation ace.

Although there is no timetable for his recovery, after the 21 days of shoulder recovery Senga will undertake arm strengthening training that will last at least six weeks, so his return date could be scheduled for the end of April or beginning of May. .

So far it is unknown who will take the position as starter on day 1 of the 2024 Major League season, but everything indicates that the Colombian José Quintana or the Dominican ex-Yankee Luis Severino could take on that challenge.
