Some obscene gestures by Cristiano Ronaldo to rival fans caused a scandal in the Saudi Arabian League, after Al Nassr’s 3-2 victory against Al Shabab.
Given this attitude that went viral, and in response to the presentation of Al Shabab, the Disciplinary Committee of the Saudi Pro League opened an investigation into the behavior of the former Real Madrid and Manchester United star.
Furthermore, said Commission has already summoned the 39-year-old Portuguese forward to testify to explain the images.
This situation reached other levels after the leadership of the Al Shabab club demanded a sanction for an official communication after the video with Ronaldo’s attitude went viral.
It is worth clarifying that the Committee must rely only on the videos captured by the official cameras of the tournament, and the one of the controversy was taken from one of the stands. However, the complaint from the injured club could distort the decision.
After the Portuguese version, the Court will announce its definition. If the members interpret what they see, that it was an obscene gesture, they could be sanctioned, at least, with two suspension dates, in addition to receiving a heavy financial fine.
But it is not the economic aspect, but the sporting aspect, that worries the footballer and his team. Al Nassr will visit Al Hazem this Thursday, while on March 7 they will face Al Raed, in their bid to battle in the Saudi Pro League. And in that bid Cristiano is vital. The Portuguese team is second in the standings, seven points behind the leader Al Hilal.
