The New York Yankees farms in the Minor Leagues can be confident that they have plenty of talent and one of them, the number one in the entire currency, Spencer Jones, could debut in the upcoming 2024 Major League season.
A report from MLB’s specialized journalist, Jon Morosi, assured that Jones could aim big in the new campaign to debut with the Yankees, although the outfielder’s main obstacle will be the high-profile names that the Mules handle in the prairies.
Juan Soto, Aaron Judge and Alex Verdugo are aiming for the starting lineup since Opening Day, and they also have the recently signed Trent Grisham. Given the lineup that the trio has of superstars and the arrival of Grisham, only an injury to one of them would open the doors for the 22-year-old.
“If you look at the Yankees outfield, they have Juan Soto, they have Trent Grisham, they have Alex Verdugo. So for him to make it to the big leagues this year would probably require one or two injuries in that group, something that of course the Yankees don’t want to happen,” Moroso said in this regard.
Jones’ figure as a prospect has had such an impact in the Major Leagues that at the time reports claimed that the Chicago White Sox requested him as a trade piece for a possible transaction for pitcher Dylan Cease.
For this reason, he is part of the team’s roster in the current Spring Training 2024, where in just two games the player has left his mark, including an impressive 470-foot home run against the Detroit Tigers.
In addition to the home run, Jones has driven in four runs, scored four runs, had five hits and walked one, with no strikeouts, so far in spring training.
Another option for Jones to join the Yankees’ 40-man roster would be for Alex Verdugo to be traded before the trade deadline, taking into account that the patrolman is in the last year of the contract he signed at the time. with Boston Red Sox.
In any case, only Jones’ performance in the minors, where he aims to start, will make it possible for him to earn a place in the Yankees during 2024.
