After having tested positive for testosterone on August 20 in the Udinese-Juventus match, French footballer Paul Pogba has been sanctioned with a 4-year suspension.
The footballer, world champion in 2018 with France, tested positive again in the counter-analysis, which was carried out in September, and remained provisionally suspended while the NADO investigated the facts.
Although there was speculation that the defense of Pogba, who is turning 31 and has a contract with the Turin team until June 2026, had reached an agreement to avoid the process, the acceptance of the sentence requested by the prosecution leaves in the air the career of a footballer who returned to Italy in 2022 from Manchester United.
In the counteranalysis, the French midfielder tested positive for a new substance, called Dhea, or dehydroepiandrosterone, also known as the “hormone of youth,” local media reported.
The revelation of Pogba’s use of the most commonly found steroid hormone in the human body, a classic contaminant in dozens of anti-aging and body-building products, changed the defense landscape and sparked the complaint over a tainted supplement.
On September 11, Pogba’s positive test for testosterone was confirmed in a test carried out on August 20 in the match between the Turin team and Udinese, which the midfielder experienced from the bench.
Immediately, that same day, the National Anti-Doping Court decreed his suspension, attributing him to the violation of codes 2.1 and 2.1 of the Sports Rules that sanction the use and even attempted consumption of prohibited substances.
Paul Pogba sad about his suspension
Pogba considers the 4-year suspension to which he has been sentenced for testing positive in a doping test “wrong,” and announced that he will appeal the resolution to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAD).
“Everything I have built in my career as a professional player has been taken from me,” he said today in a post on his Instagram account after confirming the request of the Italian Andidoping Prosecutor’s Office (NADO) for testing positive for testosterone last year. August 20 at Udinese-Juventus.
The French international, world champion in 2018, was “sad, shocked and heartbroken” and assured that, when he is free from legal restrictions, “the whole story will be clear.”
“I have never knowingly or deliberately taken any supplement that violates anti-doping rules,” added the footballer, who turns 31 next month.
Furthermore, Pogba maintained that he would “never do anything to improve” his performance “through the use of banned substances” and that he has never “disrespected or deceived fellow athletes and supporters of any of the teams I have played for, or against.” .
