Terrence Howard, a well-known actor who appeared in the first ‘Iron Man’ film, faces a serious financial setback after being ordered by a judge in Philadelphia to pay almost a million dollars in back taxes and penalties.
Howard, also known for his performance in ‘Empire’, has been entangled in a long legal process over tax matters that extends from 2010 to 2019, during which time, according to the accusations, he did not pay the taxes he was owed. .
The case against Howard worsened when he did not respond to the first court summonses. This resulted in US District Court Judge John F. Murphy ruling in his absence that the actor owes $903,115.
The dispute came to a head when Howard expressed his position in a recorded message to the Justice Department lawyer in November 2023.
“Four hundred years of forced labor and never receiving any compensation for it. “Now you have the nerve to try to prosecute and tax the descendants of a broken people that you are responsible for causing the breakup,” he said in his message.
“In truth, the entire United States should, by default, become the property of the descendants of slaves,” he added.
Although Howard has requested compensation, it appears that he will have to pay the amount determined by the judge.
This is not the first time he has faced problems with the treasury. Previously, in 2005 and 2006, he had to deal with $639,000 in state tax debts against him, which he later settled.
But the setbacks returned in 2010, when the IRS demanded $1.1 million from him for not having paid his taxes for the years 2007 and 2008.
