This Saturday, Inter Miami began to show the image that was expected in the new 2024 MLS season and with a resounding 5-0 win against Orlando City they certified their role as favorites, something that their star Lionel Messi did not hide after the commitment.
In a subsequent conversation with Apple TV+, Messi assured that although the start was slow, with a doubtful victory (Real Salt Lake) and a draw (LAFC), they are still aware that the board built a team to win the MLS title.
“Without putting on the backpack, we are aware of the team we put together and we try to fight for the MLS. It’s a long road, it’s just beginning. We ourselves are aware that we have a group to fight and we are going to try. It is important to start well,” commented the Albiceleste number 10.
He later confessed that he was happy about the performance of his friend Luis Suárez, who resolved the match before 11 minutes with his first double in the MLS.
“Very happy for him that he was able to convert, we already know what Luis is, what he is capable of doing, all the people know. When you least expect it, the game resolves for you. We are doing well, enjoying ourselves, growing, it was an important game to win to continue on this path of growth. This has to make us very strong for everything that is coming,” Messi said about it.
Inter Miami signed the biggest victory of Tata Martino’s management by overwhelming Orlando with doubles from Luis Suárez, Leo Messi and both from the Finn Robert Taylor.
“It was a great game, we were able to play a great game. We knew that we had to go out with intensity because Orlando presents that to you, a lot of friction, a lot of shock. We were lucky to find the first goal quickly and that changes the entire game,” Messi concluded.
Martino’s team has seven points in three MLS games and their next challenge will be to debut in the Concacaf Champions Cup to face Nashville SC in the first leg.
