The Spanish Luis Enrique Martínez, current coach of Paris Saint-Germain, addressed the issue of the second consecutive substitution of Kylian Mbappé during a press conference this Friday, stating that he does not want to enter into discussions about it and that the decision was his.
In his statements to Prime Video collected by EFE, the PSG coach explained that his team must learn to play without the presence of the French star, who will probably leave the club next season.
“There will come a time when we will have to play without him. My goal is to find the best solutions for the team. Sometimes, there is a certain dependence on it. As a coach, I must constantly make decisions and do what is best for the team. “I don’t want to get into discussions, it was simply my decision,” he expressed.
Mbappé was substituted during half-time in the match against Monaco, which ended goalless at the Stadio Louis II. On the previous day, he was also replaced in the 65th minute in the match against Rennes with 0-1 down, a match that PSG tied 1-1 at the Stade Rennais.
However, as reported by L’Équipe, both Luis Enrique and Mbappé have sought to “smooth things out” before the confrontation against Real Sociedad in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, where PSG defends a 2-0 result. -0 for the first leg.
According to the French media, the coach and the PSG star met this Saturday morning at the Poissy Campus “to clarify the events” and “calm” the tensions.
In this meeting, which lasted “several minutes,” Luis Enrique would have reiterated to Mbappé that his decisions are focused on preparing for the next season. However, he also assured him that he is counting on him for the decisive matches that PSG has ahead of him until the end of the season.
