Francis Suárez, mayor of Miami, who in August of last year withdrew from the Republican race for the 2024 presidential elections, supported the candidacy of former President Donald Trump, “the only candidate who can keep our country safe,” he said in a statement. .

“After seeing the current President (Joe Biden) and former President Trump at the border, it is evident that the only candidate who will keep our country safe, our border safe and reduce inflation (…) is President Donald Trump,” said Suárez , originally from Cuba, in the statement.

The mayor’s support for the New York tycoon comes a day after he and Biden made visits to the border between the United States and Mexico, where the Democratic president asked the Republican candidate to work at his side to gain enough support in Congress to reach an immigration agreement.

Suárez, 46, was the only Hispanic among the candidates for the Republican primaries, in which Trump is the favorite well above Nikki Haley.

“I look forward to helping (Trump) campaign on his strong record and contrast it with that of the current Administration,” he added.

In particular, he indicated that he will try to support the former president and the Republican Party to win “a greater proportion of Hispanics, young voters and voters in our cities and urban centers.”

In an interview for the Fox Business channel, Suárez expressed that immigration was the “number one issue” in the presidential elections for the month of November.
