Former Barcelona player, Gerard Piqué, expressed his criticism of the Barça team for generating false hopes about the team’s potential and urged the Barcelona leaders not to create excessive expectations about the possibilities of winning the Champions League.
In a Twitch stream with creator Ibai Llano, Piqué emphasized the importance of being honest with the fans and not creating false expectations, especially due to the financial difficulties the club is going through.
“What you can’t do is sell smoke and say that here we are going to win ‘Champions’ and then you don’t have the money to compete,” said the former defender.
Piqué mentioned that he is not aware of the current financial situation of the club, but that it seems that it is not favorable: “It looks like it is not very well,” said Piqué, arguing that “the truth” should be told to the fans and members of the Catalan club.
In this sense, he suggested that the message should be realistic, focusing on trusting the youth team and competing for the League title.
“The message should be: we are going to trust people from La Masia, who are very good and have a lot of talent, who are hardened and we are going to try to compete for the League title. The message should not be that you will fight to be third or fourth. “It’s a mix,” she noted.
Although Piqué denied that he was campaigning to be president of the club, he highlighted the importance of “telling the reality of what is happening” at Barcelona.
The former soccer player also recalled José Luis Núñez’s time as president: “I am watching a documentary about Núñez and it is brutal, since the member showed that he is always there when the club needs him,” he added.
In summary, Piqué advocates transparency and honesty in the club’s communication with its fans, recognizing the loyalty and unconditional support that the fans have shown over the years.
