The present of the outfielder and new addition of the New York Yankees for the 2024 Major League season, Alex Verdugo, seemed like he would have a productive Spring Training with the Mules but this Monday he was forced to leave the lineup against the Detroit Tigers due to ailments.
As reported on YES Network social networks, Verdugo would have suffered a severe bruise on his left leg and his progress is expected to progress day by day.
For that reason, the Mexican could be left out of part of Spring Training although the injury would not be serious, so it is expected that he will be able to be present on the Major League Opening Day with the Yankees.
Although the Yankees have a large number of players who can make life in the outfield, Verdugo’s injury could disrupt Aaron Boone’s plans for the start of the regular season.
According to the few games in which he has seen action, Verdugo aims to be the Yankees’ leadoff hitter in a lineup that he would share with Juan Soto, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton in the first four spots in the lineup.
However, in the event that he misses several commitments and another figure resurfaces in Spring Training, it could be counterproductive for the aspirations of the skilled hitter who will face the last year of his contract in 2024 before entering free agency.
For that reason Verdugo would be interested in performing at his best with New York so that, whether with the currency or some other currency, he can obtain a contract that allows him to continue his internship in the Major Leagues.
Verdugo, who came from the Boston Red Sox, was acquired by the Yankees in the offseason after hitting .264 in 2023 with 144 hits in 602 plate appearances, with 37 doubles and 13 home runs.
