Manchester City’s leading scorer in the English Premier League, Erling Haaland, wanted to end once and for all the controversy that has surrounded him in recent days regarding Lionel Messi and assured that the Argentine is the best of all time within of football.

Haaland wanted to put an end to the rumors of his supposed disagreement with not having been awarded the Ballon d’Or and The Best award from FIFA, which Messi himself ended up getting, to indicate that if he obtained these recognitions it is because he deserved to win them.

“He won those trophies and he also won the World Cup. He is the best ever, in my opinion,” Haaland said this Tuesday at a press conference prior to the return match against Copenhagen for the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

Haaland also took the opportunity to confront the criticism he has received for having missed some scoring chances with Manchester City and even compared his situation to that of the previous season.

“Last year I scored 36 goals and was the top scorer,” said Haaland, in response to the changes from the year before this one. “This season I’m still the top scorer, with 18, so you can think it’s being a good season or not for me.”

Continuing under the same theme, he indicated that because he is an attacker there will be some times where he scores and celebrates goals and others in which he regrets failing.

“I think we are doing quite well as a team and that is my goal. I have failed, I have failed many times and I will surely do so in the future too and people will criticize me. Do I have to think about it? No,” she added.

Regarding his mental health, Haaland stated that he has been working hard on it because it has been a challenge for him since he was young.

“I could start crying a lot if I missed too many chances, so I’ve worked on it. It has been a challenge and I think I demand a lot of myself and people ask a lot of me too. “It’s something I work on,” he concluded.

Erling Haaland’s Manchester City aims to repeat this season what was achieved in 2022-2023 when they managed to celebrate a historic treble with the Premier League, the FA Cup and the first UEFA Champions League in their history.
