This Wednesday the Argentine justice system will define a key chapter in the case for the death of Diego Armando Maradona: the evidence with which the eight accused will be tried for simple homicide due to possible intent, a penalty that includes up to 25 years in prison.

The hearing will be in San Isidro (province of Buenos Aires) by the Oral Criminal Court 3 where the eight defenses, the complaints and the attorney general’s office of San Isidro will attend, and with the probability that the start date of the oral and public debate will be determined.

Among this evidence, there are some 130 thousand audios that involve many of the accused and that refer to the stage in which Maradona was alive, prior to November 25, 2020 when he died for reasons that, according to Justice, could have been avoided.

At the hearing, each party will request the witnesses that should be summoned, the expertise and even the completion of additional evidence, since some defenses plan to request an expansion of the medical panel that existed in the investigation.

After listening to all the parties, the Court will determine through a resolution the witnesses that will be summoned, whether or not it will allow for supplementary evidence and the possible start date of the debate.

The sources consulted estimated that the trial will not take place in 2024 and that we could only talk about the beginning of the following year.

The neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luciano Luque, the psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, the psychologist Carlos Ángel Díaz, Nancy Edith Forlini, the nurses Gisella Dahiana Madrid and Ricardo Omar Almirón, their boss Mariano Perroni and the clinical doctor Pedro Pablo Di Spagna are accused.

In the same framework, they are accused of simple homicide with possible intent, and it is considered that they had some degree of participation in the alleged “home confinement” of the former soccer player and coach in a home in the north of Buenos Aires, where he finally died almost three years ago. years.

Maradona’s children, Dalma, Giannina, Jana, Diego Fernando and Diego Junior, decided to turn to Justice due to the irregularities surrounding the death of the soccer star, whose care in the last stage of his life was supervised by Luque, his lawyer. , and the medical body that he had appointed.

Maradona died at the age of 60 on November 25, 2020 and the autopsy determined that his death occurred as a result of “acute lung edema secondary to exacerbated chronic heart failure.” And it was also discovered that he had “dilated cardiomyopathy.”

On November 11, 2020, he was discharged from the hospital and moved to a house in a private neighborhood on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, where he died on the 25th of that same month.
