Washington – United States Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Puerto Rico on March 22, in what will be her first trip to the island since taking office in January 2021, the White House announced.
The objective of the trip will be “to highlight the commitment of the Biden-Harris Administration to the recovery and renewal of Puerto Rico,” the Executive indicated in a statement.
During her visit, Harris will talk about how some of the laws approved under the Biden Administration, such as an infrastructure plan approved in 2021 and valued at $1.2 trillion, are producing results and generating jobs on the island.
Other laws that Harris plans to highlight are the COVID-19 stimulus package plan, valued at $1.9 trillion and that Congress approved in 2021 to accelerate recovery from the pandemic, and the so-called ‘CHIPS’ law that she authorized in 2022 the investment of almost $280,000 million dollars in the national manufacturing of semiconductors.
The only town that Harris will visit during his visit will be San Juan, the capital and most populous city of Puerto Rico.
According to the White House, this will be her first trip to the island since she assumed the Vice Presidency in January 2021. The last time she visited Puerto Rico was in 2017 when she was a senator from California.
