Argentine strategist Gerardo “Tata” Martino acknowledged this Wednesday that although Inter Miami has a great squad, it is not considered the top favorite for the Concachampions, a tournament in which they will debut this Thursday against Nashville SC, also from the MLS.

In a press conference, Martino assured that Inter Miami has the same to prove as other favorite teams competing in the competition, naming mainly clubs from the North American league and Liga MX.

“We have the same obligations that Philadelphia, Pachuca, América, Monterrey, Tigres, Cincinnati have. The only way to become favorites is based on what we can do on the playing field. “I do not recognize favoritism before the ball moves,” said the coach.

Inter Miami will make its debut in the competition in the first leg of the round of 16, which it entered after winning the Leagues Cup last August, which represented the first title for the young American franchise.

“We do not ride on favoritism to the detriment of other institutions,” he added.

Martino mixed his cards about his lineup and did not confirm whether Spaniard Jordi Alba, who has health problems, traveled with the team.

“Jordi has a strong flu condition, we will evaluate him tomorrow to see if he is fit to play,” he said.

“They will have to ring his doorbell to know if he is here. It is always important for the rival to discover the rivals in front of them when they have the scoresheet,” she later added.

He did report that Argentine midfielder Federico Redondo, son of Fernando Redondo, is ready to make his debut.

“We have high expectations. These 180-minute games, there’s no way to look at it other than long range. Any result leaves the key open,” said the Inter Miami coach.
