Akira Toriyama: the manga saiyan
Akira Toriyama began his career within an advertising agency and later found his greatest passion: manga. Within this field, the Japanese collaborated with companies such as Shueisha, where he had the opportunity to publish his first stories.
It was in this same company that Toriyama published his most famous and transcendent work worldwide: Dragon Ball. Even before Akira’s death, the story of Goku and his friends is recognized as the best-known manga in the world, surpassing other great stories of this Japanese art.
In a less recognized way, Toriyama also collaborated in the world of video games through the design of titles such as Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, Super Famicom, among others.
Akira Toriyama also ventured into the world of television and film with the production of various Dragon Ball series as well as programs such as Apple Pop.
Toriyama was married to fellow manga artist Yoshimi Kato, with whom he had two children, Sasuke Toriyama, born on April 23, 1987, and Kikka Toriyama, who was born in October 1990.
Despite his great fame and significance in Japanese art, Toriyama usually kept a low profile in the media, so it was very rare to obtain photographs of him or even interviews for foreign newspapers.
