Sheldon Johnson Jr., an ex-convict who became a criminal activist after being released from prison less than a year ago, has now been arrested after parts of a human body were found dissected in an apartment in the Bronx (NYC).

A torso and arms were first found Tuesday night, when authorities were called to 979 Summit Avenue in the Highbridge section for a welfare check on an occupant of Apartment 6G.

Detectives obtained a search warrant last night and found the victim’s legs, arms and head in a freezer. It was later determined that they belonged to Collin Small, 44, who had been shot in the head.

Suspect Johnson is an ex-convict who spent about 25 years behind bars for attempted murder and other crimes. He was currently working for the law firm Queens Defenders, which has not commented on his new arrest.

The motive for the crime or the possible link between the detainee and the victim is not clear. Johnson, 48, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon, among other charges, reported ABCNews. Cement was found in the suspect’s car and investigators also recovered a disposable Tyvek suit, normally used to prevent stains on clothing.

Neighbors told police that the victim was heard desperately pleading with her killer shortly before two shots rang out in the apartment just after 8 p.m. on Tuesday, he said. Investigators were called for a welfare check Tuesday night after shots rang out and neighbors reported seeing a stranger going in and out of the apartment with cleaning supplies, the building’s “super” said.

Building surveillance video showed Johnson arriving at the suspect’s apartment. The “super” also saw the suspect leave in the victim’s blue Audi car and return in an Uber wearing a blonde wig.

“After his release from prison last May, (Johnson) became a strong rehabilitation advocate and juvenile counselor” for a public defender firm in Queens, he summarized. The New York Times.

All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

In a similar case, in recent days a head and several limbs of at least two victims were located in wooded areas in Nassau County on Long Island (NY). Four people have been arrested.

In January, a dissected body was found in the refrigerator of an apartment in Brooklyn (NYC). It was later determined that he was an ex-convict who had been reported missing in March 2022.
