Democrats must understand the distinction between the elected politician and the candidate for re-election.
It is necessary to understand that we are in an election year, a period where American citizens weigh their options to determine the political future of the country.
Anything said about a candidate can be used against them. There is plenty of historical reference to this, ask Hillary Clinton and the aforementioned “emails” from the electoral contest against former President Trump.
Joe Biden will not be the best politician. No, he is not eloquent, nor charismatic, he stumbles when he walks and gets confused in his speeches. He is already as old as he is and is another “whitey” who wants to occupy the White House. It is also true that he is a man of integrity, with vast political experience, an unwavering commitment to the country and the possibility of making it better and better.
He is the President who managed to stabilize us after an international health crisis, the Elected Official responsible for guaranteeing basic services and expanding opportunities for disadvantaged individuals and communities.
The Biden-Harris administration is responsible for preventing an economic collapse after the pandemic debacle, they are responsible for forgiving hundreds of thousands of student loans, guaranteeing LGBTQ+ marriage through a bill, legislation to reduce violence through Firearms. Nominate the first black woman to the Supreme Court, significantly lower the cost of medications, among many other things.
True, there is opportunity to improve and in various areas we have to do it differently. That is precisely the reason for re-election, the possibility of continuing to do the work and achieving results.
It is time to support, highlight and spread the virtues of our candidate.
Next year when I am sworn in for a second term in the Presidency, we resume our criticisms and verbalize our demands to continue doing better.
Meanwhile, the political base of the opposition candidate, despite being a candidate criminally accused of multiple charges including trying to steal the last election, will go out to vote as if nothing had happened.
He commands absolute and unquestionable loyalty from his followers.
It is time to distinguish ourselves, time to put emotions and passion aside and think with a cool head who is the best alternative for the country and our future on an individual and collective level.
In the end, life is not necessarily the way we would like it to be, life is the way it is.
These are the political alternatives that we have available, one of those two Presidents will revalidate.
