Police arrested a 27-year-old man who allegedly punched a postal worker in the head until he was unconscious. The suspect did not receive a package he was expecting, and he took out his frustration on the employee, authorities said.
The Susquehanna Regional Police Department said it sent officers to the post office at 16 North New Haven Street at 12:56 p.m. after receiving reports of a postal worker lying behind the counter and who was also bleeding out.
The officers arrived at the scene and found the victim already awake, but she looked dazed and confused, and had several wounds on her face.
The employee lost consciousness
“SRPD received an assault call at the Marietta Post Office. “A postal worker was reported assaulted and was lying behind the counter bleeding,” police wrote.
The suspect was identified as 27-year-old James Moore. The victim told officers that the suspect jumped over the post office counter and brutally hit him in the head several times until the employee lost consciousness and fell behind the counter.
“Upon further investigation, it was determined that Moore was upset that a package was not delivered and, according to the victim, Moore jumped over the counter and hit the victim in the head several times before becoming unconscious.”
The suspect was still at the post office
Susquehanna Regional Police confirmed that Moore assaulted the postal worker because he was very upset about his order. Witnesses were the ones who called the emergency number, after Moore’s beating of the employee.
When officers arrived at the post office, they found James Moore still there. The officers immediately arrested him without incident and took him to the police station.
James Moore faces a felony charge of aggravated assault and is arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Michael D. Hess.
Police say Moore was taken to Lancaster County Jail on $200,000 bail.
