A former correctional officer at the Federal Correctional Institute in Dublin, California, was sentenced to six years in prison for sexually abusing female inmates, said the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California.

The subject, identified as Nakie Nunley, 48, is the seventh correctional officer at that prison to face a sentence related to abuse against people incarcerated inside Dublin Correctional, a low-security East Bay prison, which has been under scrutiny for several employees involved in this type of acts.

Nunley admitted to engaging in sexual acts with five women serving time in prison, according to authorities. In addition to the crimes against these five women, Nunley also admitted in her plea agreement that there were two other inmates with whom she also engaged in sexual acts.

At the time the assaults occurred, Nunley was supervising prisoners working for the federal prison industries, known as UNICOR. All of the victims worked in the UNCOR call center.

“Nakie Nunley egregiously exploited his authority by sexually abusing multiple incarcerated women and then retaliating against those who came forward,” said Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco.

In addition to sexual abuse, Nunley also threatened to transfer incarcerated people he sexually assaulted to a different facility or take away their jobs in the federal prison industry, said Justice Department Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz.

Nunley pleaded guilty in September 2023 to four counts of sexual abuse of a ward, five counts of abusive sexual contact and one count of making a false statement during the investigation into allegations of prison abuse.

Dublin prison has come under fire and earned the nickname “rape club” because of ongoing sexual abuse between staff and inmates.
