This coming Monday, a major payment from the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program will be made, benefiting millions of people in the United States who face severe disabling conditions that limit their ability to generate income.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) confirmed that the April monthly payment, which can be up to $943 for individual filers, will be spread over four days.
Recipients of the next payment, scheduled for April 1, include individuals living with severe and debilitating disabilities.
These disabilities cause them to have limited income and, in some cases, may be physical or mental conditions that seriously limit daily activities for a period of 12 months or more, or are expected to result in death.
The maximum amount each applicant can receive varies depending on the category under which they file taxes.
There is a group of people who are classified as ‘essential people’. They live with SSI beneficiaries to take care of them and give them the necessary attention.
Essential people can also receive financial support.
According to the SSA, applicants filing taxes individually can receive up to $943 each month, couples can receive up to $1,415 per month, and essential individuals up to $472 each month.
These amounts have an increase of 3.2% compared to 2023, adjusted for inflation.
The SSI program, established in 1974, was designed to offer additional assistance to vulnerable people, including the elderly and those with disabilities.
Its goal is to provide an income cushion, which is then supplemented by state assistance programs.
The payments are provided in addition to regular Social Security benefits for those who qualify for both.
