A 19-year-old man was shot to death by New York Police (NYPD) officers after he confronted them with a pair of scissors in his Queens home yesterday afternoon.
According to the NYPD, police responded to a 2nd floor apartment on 103rd Street near 101st Avenue in Ozone Park around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a call from a mother about an emotionally disturbed young man, reported NBC News.
When they arrived, the 19-year-old took out scissors and lunged at the officers, who used Taser stun guns to stop him, but the mother knocked them down, according to police sources.
At that moment the teenager picked up the scissors again and that’s when the police opened fire, wounding him in the chest. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he died. His identity has not been revealed.
“It was chaotic, it moved quickly and they had to defend themselves,” NYPD Patrol Chief John Chell was quoted as saying. ABCNews. The entire incident was captured on police body cameras. The investigation remained ongoing under the State Prosecutor’s Office, as happens when someone dies during an operation or in police custody.

In January, a man was killed in a shootout with police at a motel in South Brunswick, New Jersey. He was suspected of several serious crimes, including the robbery of a Brooklyn (NYC) bishop during a religious service in 2022.
Also in January, a man slashed three NYPD officers with a machete while they were trying to arrest him for domestic violence in an apartment in East Flatbush, Brooklyn.
