San Juan – The emergency services of Puerto Rico are searching this Thursday for a young soldier active in the United States Army who was swept away by sea currents on a beach in Luquillo, in the northeast of the island.
The missing person was identified as Samuel Wanjiru, a US Marine residing in the state of Massachusetts who was visiting Puerto Rico with his family.
The young man, 26 years old, was swept away by the currents on La Pared beach in Luquillo yesterday afternoon, Wednesday.
Personnel from the Luquillo Emergency Management Office, Ceiba Zone State Emergency Management, the US Coast Guard and agents and divers from the Maritime Unit of the United Rapid Action Forces (FURA) participate in their search.
Emergency Management reiterated on social media its call to citizens to “not go to the beaches this week because they are dangerous due to storm surge.”
Likewise, the Coast Guard warned swimmers and boaters in a statement about “high surf and life-threatening rip currents” in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
