Inter Miami announced on Thursday the acquisition of Argentine right back Marcelo Weigandt, on loan from Boca Juniors for the remainder of the current MLS season.
“The club will have an option to extend the defender’s loan until the end of the 2025 season. The right-back will reinforce the team’s defense for the remainder of the 2024 season and is waiting to receive his P-1 visa. ″, indicated the institution.
In this way, the Argentine coach will add a defender to make up for the loss of one of the references that the American franchise had, DeAndre Yedlin, who was the captain of Las Garzas until the arrival of the Rosario star and with whom he lifted the US trophy. “We are pleased to incorporate defender Marcelo Weigandt on loan from Boca Jrs. He is a young, skilled defender who is in good shape and ready to contribute. For his part, Weigandt indicated: “I am excited and proud to join an ambitious club like Inter Miami. “I am excited to join my teammates, wear the club colors and give my all to help the team achieve its goals.”
After his debut with the blue and gold jersey in 2019, Weigandt played a total of 72 games for Xeneize if we count all competitions, including 15 in the prestigious Copa Libertadores, and registered three goals and seven assists. He won five titles: two First Division titles (Superliga 2020 and Liga Profesional 2022), a League Cup title (2022), an Argentine Super Cup (2022) and the Argentine Cup (2019-20).

On the field I hope to contribute what I can and always look forward and help my teammates,” said the winger. “For me, family is very important and the number 57 is for my grandmother, who died at that age,” added the now former Boca footballer in relation to the number he will wear, the same one he had in the Argentine club.
Inter Miami will host New York City FC in the MLS on Saturday and will be home to Monterrey of Mexico on Wednesday in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
