This Saturday it was revealed that Argentine star Lionel Messi will not be part of the squad list with which Inter Miami will face tomorrow’s duel on Matchday 6 of the MLS against New York FC due to his muscle injury.
Javier Morales, Gerardo Martino’s assistant at Inter Miami, was the one who confirmed the news: “He is working with the physios, he is ruled out for tomorrow. He will not be available because we will try our best to make him available next Wednesday with Monterrey, here at home. Yes, it is a possibility that he plays there, we are working for that, he is working for that with the medical staff.”
And he indicated: “He is ruled out for tomorrow and we will try to make him available for the next game with Monterrey.”
From Inter Miami they hope that Messi recovers 100% from his discomfort and wears the number 10 next Wednesday, when Inter Miami opens its Concachampions quarterfinal series against the Mexican team.
The Argentine began the season with three goals in three MLS games and two in two Concacaf Champions League games, scored in the round of 16 against Nashville.
Against New York City it will be on paper a more accessible duel for Inter Miami, because if the Red Bulls are third in the Eastern table, tied with Florida and with one more game, City has barely won one of its five matches.
He is coming off a loss against Cincinnati and only scored three goals in five games.
Without Messi, it will be the Uruguayan Luis Suárez who will lead Inter Miami’s forward line, after starting the season with four goals in six MLS games and two in two Concacaf Champions League games.
Spaniards Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba are also targeting Martino’s eleven. Busquets was seen last Thursday at the Miami Open, the 1,000th tennis Masters, in his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz’s match against the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.
As if that were not enough, Tata Martino had to regret some bad news in the last few hours: the injury of Federico Redondo. After his participation in the friendly tour of the Under 23 National Team in Mexico, the 21-year-old midfielder suffered a torn lateral collateral ligament in his left knee and will be out for Inter Miami for the next few months.
The United States franchise stated in an official medical report: “Redondo has suffered an injury and is expected to be out for approximately eight weeks.”
