I knew that last March 23 would be an unforgettable day when, on my tour of Egypt with 41 of my followers, I could see the historic and majestic Nile River. What I never imagined was that the transmission of world news would mark the memory of that walk.
I heard one of the travelers in my group approach me and ask if I had heard about Kate Middleton’s message. She hadn’t seen the news, but with so many rumors about “his disappearance from her,” I thought about divorce.
When I heard about his cancer, I not only felt my heart shake, but I was stupefied… Instantly, my eyes stopped observing the immensity of the Nile, my body stopped feeling the heat of the Egyptian sun and my ears no longer heard the screams of the vendors who came in small boats to offer tablecloths.
In a matter of seconds, I felt the cold again of that doctor’s office in December 2016 when I heard the doctor tell me the worst news of my life; “you have cancer” .
Precisely, the moment you know you have it, it is the worst of the entire process. And there is nothing more terrifying in life than feeling the fear of dying. Finding out that someone else just got sick not only makes me understand the terror of it, but it makes me share what made me overcome that monster.
Whether it is a cancer diagnosis or any tough battle, the most important thing is the attitude with which you face it. The day of my diagnosis, after crying I told myself: “Cancer doesn’t know who it messed with, because I’m going to win this battle.”
On my walk along the Nile River, I not only thanked God for my healing, but I asked Him to also give Princess Kate and each patient the same attitude that He granted me.
