A former New York Police Department officer arrested in October for selling heroin and fentanyl while on duty has been indicted.
Identified as Grace Rosa Báez, 37, who was put behind bars along with César Martínez, 42, they were charged with conspiracy to distribute narcotics and distribution of narcotics, explained the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams.
The two allegedly tried to sell the narcotics to a federal informant between October 9 and 19, says the indictment, which was filed March 20 in Manhattan federal court.
Báez and Martínez pleaded not guilty this week.
The woman allegedly gave the informant a sample of what she said was “high quality” fentanyl in a container of Mentos candy, officials said.
He later told the informant that he could sell them a kilo of heroin for $25,000 and 800 grams of fentanyl, the amount of which would be negotiated later based on the purity of the drug.
Baez, who had been a police officer since 2012, allegedly met with the informant numerous times, according to court documents.
The former officer, who at one time was proud to belong to the New York police force, resigned from the NYPD after being arrested.
Báez is currently under house arrest with an electronic monitoring device.
For his part, Martínez is jailed without bail, according to court documents.
