Millions of beneficiaries are waiting for the next payment from the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program that will be sent tomorrow, April 1, for an amount of up to $943.
Payment will be made on Monday, April 1 for those people who have a serious and debilitating disability that causes them to have little income.
To qualify for the payments, a person must be at least partially blind or have physical or mental conditions that seriously limit daily activities for a period of 12 months or more, or that are expected to result in death.
The maximum amount each applicant can receive depends on the category under which they pay their taxes.
People who live with SSI recipients to provide necessary care may also qualify for a monthly payment. These people are considered ‘essential people’.
Taxpayers who file their taxes individually receive up to $943 each month.
Those who file taxes jointly with their partner can receive up to $1,415 a month, and essential individuals receive up to $472 each month, according to the SSA.
These amounts already have a 3.2% increase compared to 2023 payments due to inflation.
The SSI program was created in 1974 to provide additional assistance to vulnerable people, including the elderly and people with debilitating disabilities.
The payments are provided in addition to regular Social Security benefits for those who qualify for both.
Applicants can see how much money they could receive using the SSA calculator.
