The 2024 Major League season is just beginning but we could already have the biggest comeback of the entire championship that was seen during the Cincinnati Reds’ 6-5 victory over the Washington Nationals, thanks to two consecutive home runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Reds were forced to come back on a couple of occasions, but the final game was sealed in epic fashion with the two homers that served to tie 5-5, including a home run by Hispanic Christian Encarnación-Strand.
At the beginning of the 9th inning Washington was up 5-3, but a double by Jonathan India gave the team hope to try to find the second win of the campaign.
The formula turned out to be successful because minutes later Will Benson hit a huge home run through center field to hit two runs and tie the game against the deliveries of Kyle Finnegan, who seconds later would take credit for the defeat (0-1). .
The hit shook Finnegan who ended up throwing a breaking pitch to Encarnación-Strand that he did not forgive and with a swing he sent the ball directly into the left field stands at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
The victory in-extremis 6-5 was an explosion of joy for both the players and the few fans who remained in the venue after many left early due to their team’s disadvantage.
