Three girls appeared in Superior Court in Washington DC after being allegedly responsible for the death of a man with health problems, who was beaten in October last year. The suspects, who are between 12 and 13 years old, were charged with second-degree murder, assault and conspiracy.

Two 13-year-old girls and a 12-year-old girl appeared together with their parents to appear before a judge in court, after being identified as those allegedly responsible for the death of Reggie Brown, 64 years old.

The beating was recorded with the cell phone

The teenagers pleaded innocent, but homicide detective Harry Singleton described the accident as “horrible” after showing the audience the video they recorded with their cell phone while they kicked and hit Mr. Brown.

Reggie Brown was a man who was sick, had mental health problems and was missing fingers on his hands. The grandfather was on Georgia Avenue, in the early morning of October 17, 2023, when a 20-year-old man, who has not been identified so far, threw him to the ground.

At that moment, a group of five girls were passing by and one of them asked the unknown man if she could also participate in the beating, so two more girls joined in to abuse Brown, who was trying to escape the attacks.

They hit him, kick him and hit him with a belt

According to the Metropolitan Police, it was revealed that in the video, which was recorded by another of the young girls, as well as the images from the surveillance cameras, you can see how they kick Brown’s head several times, drag him, pull down his pants to remove him. the belt with which they also hit him.

After brutally attacking him, the girls left and one of them even celebrated what she had done, a situation that was recorded in the video evidence.

When police officers arrived at 6200 Georgia Avenue, near Rittenhouse Street, Brown was dead. The medical examiner said he had died from blunt force trauma.

It was confirmed that there was no relationship between Reggie Brown and the suspects, nor between them and the man who was at the scene, but who has not been identified.

The case took several months, and detectives reviewed all the videos until they could find those responsible for the beating. And they continue to search for the man who also appears in the fatal accident.

The three minors were held in the Youth Services Center, after the judge ordered that there was enough evidence to charge them with second-degree murder, assault and conspiracy. The three accused must return to appear in the coming days.
