A judge rejected attempts by Hunter Biden, son of the president of the United States, to dismiss the charges against him in a court in California for alleged tax evasion.

District Judge Mark Scarsi, who had been skeptical of Hunter Biden’s arguments at a hearing in Los Angeles, California, last week, denied eight motions to dismiss in a ruling, CNN reported.

Did not pay $1.4 million in taxes

Biden is accused of failing to pay approximately $1.4 million in federal taxes over a four-year period, from 2016 to 2019.

The president’s 54-year-old son has pleaded not guilty to all nine charges he faces, including failure to file, pay taxes and false or fraudulent tax return, according to court documents.

The indictment was led by prosecutor David Weiss, the same one who already presented a first indictment against President Joe Biden’s son, on three counts of having hidden his addictions by acquiring a weapon in 2018.

No test checks the arguments

In order to dismiss the charges in the tax evasion case, Hunter Biden’s lawyers alleged that Weiss’ accusation was politically motivated, but Scarsi assured that his team presented “virtually no evidence” to substantiate these arguments, so The judge’s decision is presented as a victory for Weiss.

Hunter Biden’s lead attorney, Abbe Lowell, said in a statement that he “strongly disagreed” with the Court’s decision and would continue to “vigorously” confront the president’s son’s challenges to the “abnormal” manner in which David Weiss had handled the investigation of the case.

The trial related to the purchase and possession of a gun in 2018, something illegal when the user consumes drugs, is scheduled for June 3. While the scheduled date for the trial of the tax charges in California is scheduled for June 20.
