After just over a year since the administrative process began, the Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office announced that the new rates for various services will be adjusted as of April 1.

Among the significant changes are increases in the naturalization process by five percent, going from $760 dollars, that is, $35 dollars more.

In the case of the Green Card, the increase is 26%, since the Change of Status request will cost $1,440 dollars, which means an increase of 26% or $300 dollars, according to the Federal Register.

The agency specified that there are several procedures that have downward adjustments, since they integrate the immigration protection service and the process for biometric data (photography and fingerprints).

There will be discounts for low-income families, so the naturalization process will be $380 in some cases, but the petition must include documentation that justifies the reduced cost.

“[Se] is revising USCIS Manual policy guidance to align with the fee schedule and changes to certain other immigration benefits,” the agency said Monday.

USCIS noted that it will award costs and discounts to applications or petitions postmarked by the effective date of April 1, although there may be exceptions that will be informed to people with applications in process.

Before making adjustments to the rates, USCIS received 5,400 comments on the rule in the Federal Register; These suggestions were included in the final guideline, focused on humanitarian programs.

There are several visas and procedures that have increases, such as the Form I-102 or Replacement Application or Arrival and Departure Document, which went from $445 to $560 dollars, an increase of 26%.
