A woman from Bay City, Michigan, plans to become a homeowner after winning a $1 million Mega Millions prize. Of course, at first, the woman thought it was all a scam.
Anna Marquez, 31, matched all five white ball numbers in the March 5 drawing to win the grand prize with numbers 02-49-50-61-70.
The player purchased her winning ticket online at the MichiganLottery.com portal.
“I play Mega Millions from time to time, usually when the jackpot starts to grow. I logged in the day after the drawing and was surprised to see a large amount outstanding in my account!” said Marquez.
“Honestly, at first I thought it was a scam because you just don’t believe this kind of thing happens to you. “I checked my email and saw one from the Lottery with information on how to claim a prize, so that’s when I knew it was real!” he added.
Marquez went to the Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. With his earnings, he plans to buy a house, pay bills and then save the remainder.
Mega Millions drawings take place every Tuesday and Friday night. Each Mega Millions play costs $2.
For an additional cost of $1 per play, players can add a ‘Megaplier’ that can multiply non-jackpot prizes up to five times.
Mega Millions tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington DC and the US Virgin Islands.
The next drawing is scheduled for Monday at 11:00 p.m.
