Michael Stuhlbarg and John Cardoza, who are currently in the cast of the Broadway productions “Patriots” and “Notebook,” joined the long list of victims of violence in New York in incidents hours apart on Easter Sunday.
In broad daylight, around 2 pm Cardoza was robbed at gunpoint at a Dunkin’ Donuts in Harlem. The 30-year-old actor was at the business located on W. 145th St. near St. Nicholas Ave. when a man asked him for $1.
“I offered to take him to lunch because I didn’t have any cash and the situation escalated pretty quickly,” Cardozo noted on Instagram. The man put his hand in his pocket and told her, “I have a gun,” according to the police complaint.
There were no injuries, but the robber left with Cardoza’s wallet, which contained personal items and just $9 in cash. “In the end he didn’t take anything irreplaceable,” the actor wrote. “It saddens me to think that people are so desperate and it saddens me to feel the need to alert anyone about this type of activity.”
Later, the thief tried to use the victim’s credit card at grocery stores, supermarkets and pharmacies in Harlem, he said. DailyNews. No arrests have been made or suspects identified. A few hours later Stuhlbarg, the 55-year-old actor who played gangster Arnold Rothstein in the TV series “Boardwalk Empire,” was attacked with a rock in Central Park.
Police say Stuhlbarg was walking in the park near E. 90th St. and East Drive when a suspect identified as Xavier Israel threw a rock at him around 7:45 p.m.
The actor suffered a small cut to his head during the attack and police charged Israel, 27, with assault. Stuhlbarg has participated in several films recognized with Oscar nominations or awards, such as A Serious Man, The shape of water and Call me by your name.
The suspect in the beating has a history of mental illness and in January 2022 was accused of carrying out three assaults over a 10-day period in or near Central Park.
All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
