Two women of Hispanic origin were arrested after being suspected of human trafficking, transporting six undocumented immigrants in a car. The people were trying to reach an undetermined point within the United States, with the help of the two coyotes, who were placed in jail.
The Zavala County Sheriff’s Office reported that an officer working under Operation Lone Star found a white Toyota Camry suspicious, so he made the stop justifying a traffic violation, this was at the height of US Highway 57 at this one from La Pryor.
The officer activated the lights to make the vehicle stop, which it did without any problem, but when the agent approached the driver’s window, he saw that several people who were inside the car were trying to hide.
a traffic stop
“Zavala County Deputy #725, conducted a traffic stop east of La Pryor. After activating the emergency lights, the Camry came to a complete stop. As the deputy approached the driver’s side window, he noticed several individuals trying to hide from view,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote.
After the suspicious action, which they have identified as the illegal transfer of people without documents, the officer forced the driver to get out of the vehicle.
The driver was identified as Jocelyn Victoria Aguirre and the woman who was in the seat next to her, named María del Carmen Saravia, were detained so that the authorities could conduct an investigation into the case.
Arrested on charges of human smuggling
The two women, commonly known as “coyotes,” were arrested on a charge of human smuggling-probable SBI or death and taken to the Zavala County Jail on suspicion of human smuggling while attempting to transport undocumented migrants.
Meanwhile, the officer asked the men to get out of the vehicle and when he prepared to check everything, he discovered that two more men were hiding in the trunk or luggage rack of the Toyota Camry.
“The deputy discovered two additional subjects hidden in the trunk of the Camry. “All six individuals were discovered to be undocumented immigrants currently in the United States illegally.”
The Camry was taken away by a tow truck to be released to the demolition service. The six undocumented immigrants were turned over to the US Border Patrol without incident, for possible deportation.
