Jill Biden participated in an interview for CBS Morning where she said that during the state dinner at the White House she will recognize the best teachers from around the country, including Missy Testerman from Tennessee, who was recently named National Teacher of the Year.
The first lady revealed on the set of CBS Mornings that this 2024, the guests of honor at the State Dinner will be teachers or educators. “When you come to the White House, we’re going to have a state dinner for teachers,” she said.
On the same set was Missy Testerman, who said that it would be “absolutely amazing” to celebrate and recognize educators in the United States, who have dedicated themselves for so many years to training hundreds of children and young people.
“I am a teacher and I have been teaching for more than 30 years.”
The first lady, who teaches English and writing at Northern Virginia Community College, has hosted a group of educators at the White House annually. This year’s group plans to visit the country on May 1, he reported The Associated Press.
“I am a teacher and have been teaching for over 30 years, just like Missy, and I always say that teachers are our heroes. “I wanted to be here today to celebrate Missy, like I love to celebrate teachers,” Biden said during the interview.
Jill Biden highlighted her dedication to teaching, as it fills her with joy. In addition, she congratulated the professor who received the title of best teacher, “I know how dedicated you are to teaching and to continue teaching, even when you are the first lady of the United States.”
He also added, addressing Missy, “I know we share the joy that can be found in education.”
Two master’s degrees and a doctorate in Education
Jill Biden has a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees, and earned a doctorate in Education from the University of Delaware in 2007. In the 1980s, she taught English at an adolescent psychiatric hospital.
From 1991 to 1993, he taught English at Brandywine Public High School in Delaware. Jill Biden was a professor at Delaware Technical & Community College.
Teachers are selected by the Council of State School Directors. Testerman and teachers from Alaska, Georgia and New Jersey were finalists for the 2024 national award.
Regularly, a state dinner is usually to recognize the head of state or a government allied to the United States, showing the ties between the two nations.
President Joe Biden has two state dinners scheduled, one will be on April 10 with officials from Japan, and the second on May 23 with people from the Kenyan government.
It should be remembered that Michelle Obama, when she was first lady of the United States, organized several state dinners for children in 2012, as she focused her initiative on improving the health and nutrition of children.
