Paris – US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and French President Emmanuel Macron agreed on the importance of “preventing the Gaza conflict from spreading,” and that includes “avoiding an escalation in Lebanon.”
In a statement published at the end of the meeting that both held on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday in Paris, during the first day of Blinken’s European tour, the State Department did not make any other mention of the war between Israel and Hamas at that time. Palestinian territory.
Hours earlier, Blinken had asked Israel for “a rapid, complete and impartial investigation” into the attack that this Monday caused the death of seven humanitarian workers from the World Central Kitchet (WCK) in Gaza.
An attack that also sparked the “firm condemnation” of France, which through its Foreign Minister, Stéphane Séjourné, insisted that “the protection of humanitarian workers is a moral and legal imperative.”
According to the US State Department, Macron and the head of US diplomacy “reaffirmed their firm support for Ukraine’s fight for freedom from Russian aggression.”
They also addressed other topics, such as “the challenges posed by China” or efforts to increase global food security through the Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils, a US initiative.
