The New York Yankees had their first game at Yankee Stadium with a full house, but it ended with a three-run loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Toronto’s team went ahead on the scoreboard at the top of the seventh, through a home run by pinch-hitter Ernie Clement off reliever Caleb Ferguson.
Clement, who at 28 years old only played 35 games the last two seasons in the Major Leagues, hit Ferguson’s second pitch to deep left field.
Yankees starter Marcos Stroman left without a decision after pitching for six complete innings, where he barely allowed three hits, no runs, with one walk and up to six fans from the Blue Jays.
The Dominican Yimi García took his first victory of the Major League season, after getting the last two outs in the sixth and his compatriot Génesis Cabrera retired two batters in his first appearance after serving a 3-game suspension.
After his great start to the campaign, the outfielder’s debut in the New York park was one of the most anticipated this Friday.
The response from the fans was immediate and the patrolman received a standing ovation as soon as he came out to defend the right fields of the venue.
Soto surrendered at the feet of the Yankees fans as soon as he heard the customary call from the fans, which they usually make with each of the team’s starters when a game starts.
The chorus with the name of the Quisqueyan also served as a token of gratitude for the tremendous start that the ranger is going through. In his first seven games, Soto is hitting .345 with one home run, 10 hits, four RBIs, three runs scored, a .441 OBP and a .924 OPS in 29 appearances with the bat.
