This Friday around noon a 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit all of New York and New Jersey. Yankee Stadium, which is located in The Bronx, did not escape this shakeup that the Big Apple had.

Coincidentally, at the Yankees’ home, the team was preparing to host the Toronto Blue Jays in the first game of this early-season series. So the players who were practicing prior to the match felt the earthquake.

However, the Yankees’ concentration was reflected during this eventuality. Well, it could be seen how players from the bomber team, such as the Venezuelan Gleyber Torres, continued with their practices despite feeling the great movement of the plates due to the earthquake.

Torres was practicing his batting a few minutes before the game began, when the 4.8 earthquake wreaked havoc on the field. However, the man from Caracas continued focused on his training task.

Gleyber Torres has started 2024 a little slowly. In seven games with the Yankees he is hitting .214 with six hits, one RBI and no home runs so far.

Last season Torres was one of the offensive lights in the Yankees’ irregular campaign. The Venezuelan finished 2023 with 25 homers, 68 RBIs and 163 hits for an average of .273, being the team leader in several departments.

Feelings of the Yankees after the earthquake

After the earthquake that was felt in New York City, MLB Network He gathered some feelings from the team players about this event.

“I grew up with these things. She thought it was the sound system at first. And then I thought, ‘No, it wasn’t that.’ I felt that, just a vibration under my feet. I’m used to it,” commented manager Aaron Boone, who even experienced a strong earthquake during his childhood in Southern California in 1994.

But on the other hand, some players did not notice the tremor. Like the Venezuelan Oswaldo Cabrera. “I thought you asked me if I always shook,” Cabrera said with a laugh. “Now I’m finding out about this,” he emphasized.
