The body of Honduran migrant Maynor Suazo, victim of the container ship crashing into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, has been found by US authorities.
This was confirmed by the Vice Chancellor of Honduras, Antonio García, who informed local media in Tegucigalpa that “Maynor’s body was found and the authorities will immediately make arrangements” for his repatriation, the EFE news agency published.
The Honduran consulate in the United States notified the discovery of the migrant’s body.
Martín Suazo, Maynor’s older brother, confirmed by telephone to the news agency that the body of his relative, one of the six missing in the March 27 incident, was located and that it could be delivered next Monday.
Maynor, who was 38, left behind a heartbroken family. Martín regretted that this situation is an agony for everyone close to him, while he hopes that his brothers in the United States will be in charge of recognizing the body.
The family’s intention is to repatriate the body to give it a dignified burial in Honduras, explained Martín, who added that Maynor left an 18-year-old son in his country of origin and a five-year-old son in the United States.
The tragic event occurred when the Dali container ship hit the Francis Scott Key bridge, collapsing it in the early hours of March 26. Six workers, including Maynor Suazo, died in the collapse.
The authorities managed to cut off traffic on the bridge thanks to an alert issued by the ship before the impact, thus avoiding a major tragedy. However, so far only two bodies had been recovered from the rubble.
