A session of the UN Security Council was interrupted this Friday in New York due to the tremor that was felt in the city and also in New Jersey.
Chris Lu, the United States representative for United Nations Management and Reform, shared his experience on social media, describing how the camera shook and caused nervousness among those present.
“I’m sitting at the UN in New York right now. The camera started to shake. Many people look around nervously. “It looks like an earthquake,” wrote Lu.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude 4.8 earthquake in Lebanon, New Jersey, near New York, with a depth of one kilometer.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said: “My team is assessing the impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will keep citizens informed throughout the day.” At the time of writing this article, no victims or injuries were reported.
The US Federal Aviation Administration reported that many flights to and from major New York City airports were being diverted due to the shaking.
