Mexican boxer David Benavídez decided to speak again about his desire to be able to confront the undisputed super middleweight champion, Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez; Despite this, on that occasion he stated that he wants to be able to see him face to face to tell him everything he thinks of him for never having accepted the constant offers that he has presented to his team to be able to face him in a ring.
These statements were made by the ‘Mexican Monster’ during an interview offered to the FreshandFit podcast, where he stated that he wishes to finally meet him in person to be able to talk about the reasons why he did not want to defend his world champion title in the ring against him; He also maintained that Canelo does not want to face him due to the complicated experience he experienced when he fought Dmitry Bivol at 175 pounds.
“I would love to confront him in person, I definitely would love to. I’ve never seen him in person. He is small, he is a small guy physically,” said Benavídez.
“I think when he fought Bivol he went up in weight to 175 and he realized it. He (Benavidez) throws a lot of combinations with a lot of power, a little like me. So I think he already saw what is happening,” added the boxer.
Finally, David Benavídez stressed that he completely respects the impressive professional career that Canelo Álvarez has achieved throughout these years and maintained that the criticism he has launched against him is exclusively for not wanting to face him in an official fight to fight for the championship belts of the various organizations he holds.
“I don’t take anything away from Canelo. Canelo is a living legend. Obviously, the opinion I have is not because of what he has done in his career, but because he does not want to fight me. But he is a living legend, but when you look at his record at 168, he fought with Caleb Plant, with Billy Joe Saunders, fighters who have no punch. When you go up to 175 there you do find fighters with punch. So, I think he knows what is going to happen to me,” he concluded.
Let us remember that Benavídez applied repeatedly to be able to face Canelo Álvarez in the duel that he will star in on May 4 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in which he ended up choosing Jaime Munguía; In addition, he was designated as the mandatory rival by the World Boxing Council to fight for the belt.
