Jaedyn Shaw, 19, was the standout figure in the United States’ 2-1 victory over Japan in one of the SheBelieves Cup semifinals, becoming the first player to score in each of her first five starts. in the USWNT.
Shaw shined in Saturday’s SheBelieves Cup semi-final in Atlanta, being voted Woman of the Match by fans. She energized a crowd of 50,644, the largest for a USWNT match on American soil since the 1999 World Cup final (90,185), with her goal in the 21st minute.
Shaw has scored seven goals in her first 11 games and is the only player in U.S. women’s national team history to score in her first five career starts.
Sam Coffey assisted on the goal with a pass just outside the box, which allowed Shaw to fire a shot into the left corner.
Lindsey Horan’s 77th-minute penalty helped the U.S. women’s national soccer team advance to the final of the SheBelieves Cup.
The U.S. will play Tuesday at Lower.com Field in Columbus against the winner of the Brazil-Canada game later Saturday in Atlanta.
Horan scored into the bottom left corner for her 35th international goal after Sophia Smith, who came on in the 63rd minute, was fouled by Hina Sugita.
Kiko Seike stunned the USA with a goal 30 seconds into the match before 19-year-old Jaedyn Shaw equalized in the 21st minute to continue her scoring streak.
Since its inception in 2016, the U.S. has won six of the eight titles at the SheBelieves Cup, including the last four.
