After reports of a shooting prompted store closures at Dolphin Mall and chaos around the mall Sunday in Miami-Dade County, police officers reported the mall was safe.
“We are aware of reports of shots fired at Dolphin Mall. Upon further investigation, no evidence was found to corroborate such reports. The shopping center has been deemed safe,” Jose “Pepe” Diaz, mayor of the city of Sweetwater, reported on X, formerly Twitter.
Some versions indicated that the situation at Dolphin Mall originated from a man who allegedly pulled out a firearm. However, as the mayor said, none of this was proven after the investigation.
The police had restricted access to the shopping center.
In videos published on X, the panic generated by the alarm was observed, with people running outside the shopping center.
Another user shared a video inside a mall store during the police investigation. “Right now we are locked in a store at the Dolphin Mall in Miami,” wrote the user, who identifies herself as Luisa Fernanda, a journalist. “While we wait for the police to give the order to be able to leave.”
In another of the videos recorded inside the Dolphin, people can be seen running through the aisles as the stores close.
The false alarm occurred after a shooting was reported on Saturday in the Doral Place shopping center, in the city of Doral, near Miami and with a large population of Venezuelans. At least two people were killed, including a security guard, and six more were injured.
