There are 24 days left until the first Supplemental Social Security (SSI) payments for May are made, which amount to up to $943 for those who requested it when filing taxes individually.

The first delivery will be made on Wednesday, May 1, and will reach people with a severe disability and limited income.

Then, a second payment will be made on May 30, replacing the June one, because June 1 falls on a weekend.

The maximum amount that each applicant can receive depends on the way in which they requested financial support when filing their taxes.

And there are three categories when filing taxes: doing it individually and together with the couple.

Supplemental Social Security can also be given to a third group of people known as ‘essential people’, who are those who live with SSI beneficiaries to provide them with the care necessary in their daily lives.

Applicants who file taxes individually can receive up to $943 each month, while those who file jointly can receive up to $1,415 per month.

Essential individuals can get up to $472 per month, as set by the SSA.

These amounts have an increase of 3.2% compared to 2023, due to inflation.

To qualify for the payments, the person is required to be at least partially blind, or have physical or mental conditions that seriously limit daily activities for a period of 12 months or more, or can be expected to result in death.

The SSI program was created in 1974 to provide additional assistance to vulnerable Americans, including the elderly and people with disabilities.
