Gianluca Mancini, Roma defender, could receive a financial penalty of around $4,000 after raising, in the middle of the celebration for the 1-0 victory against Lazio, a flag with the colors of the rival team that had a drawing of a rat on the shield.

After the match in which Mancini scored the goal to give his team the victory in the Roman derby, he approached the ‘Curva Sud’ to grab a flag from one of the blue and white Romanista fans who had a giant rat in the middle.

“The happiest man in the world,” as Mancini himself declared to the DAZN platform, assured that he did not realize that the flag had the figure of said rodent on the shield.

“I took the first flag they gave me, these are things that begin and end there. Without disrespecting anyone, I apologize, I just wanted to celebrate with the fans (…) It was an intense match and a close victory. That’s why it was celebrated like this and that’s why everything should stay there. This was not voluntary disrespect. Maybe it was an excess as a result of the happiness I felt when celebrating with our fans,” Mancini said.

After what happened, the sports prosecutor’s office is already reviewing the images for a possible violation of article 4 of the Sports Code.

Lawyer Angelo Cascella, an expert in sports law and former member of the European Court of Arbitration for Sports (TAS), told the EFE news agency that a sports sanction is unlikely, but he did make it clear that the most feasible thing would be a financial fine. .

In recent years, there have been similar cases that have all ended with a financial fine and no sporting sanction after reaching a plea agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office.
