The New York Yankees continue their great moment in the 2024 Major League season and this Monday they achieved their ninth victory of the season by beating the Miami Marlins 7-0 at Yankee Stadium thanks to the performance of their hottest hitters in these first days of the campaign: Juan Soto and Anthony Volpe.
Supported by an impressive work by Cuban starter Néstor Cortés, who worked eight innings without allowing runs, with two hits against and six strikeouts to credit the victory, Volpe and Soto made their bats fly to combine and drive in six runs between them.
The first to show all his power was Volpe, being part of a six-run rally by the Yankees in the fourth inning. With two men on board and before the deliveries of the Venezuelan Jesús Luzardo, the shortstop caught a low delivery that in the end deposited throughout the left field to put the Mules up 3-0.
It seemed like the episode ended there, but a new threat from the Yankees culminated with the team’s top offensive card so far this season: Juan Soto.
The Dominican, like Volpe, found two in circulation and took advantage of a fastball that stayed in the power zone to extend the lead 6-0 and hit his third home run of the campaign.
Mexican Alex Verdugo ended up driving in the remaining run with which the Yankees achieved their ninth victory and continue to lead the East division of the American League.
The series against the Marlins will continue this Tuesday and Wednesday at Yankee Stadium before the team travels to Ohio to face the Cleveland Guardians in four games at Progressive Field.
